Juanita L. Goranson, 93, Kokomo, died at 7:47 p.m. Sunday, March 7, 2010 at St. Joseph Hospital. She was born October 5, 1916 in the daughter of Thomas “John” and Linnie (Crosier) Boyer. In April 23, 1935 in Whiting, Indiana, she married Charles Vernon Goranson, who preceded her in death on December 17, 1978.

Juanita was a graduate of Whiting High School. As a sales rep. for WIOU, she was the first woman to sell radio advertising in the state of Indiana. She was district deputy for the Independent Order of Foresters, retiring in 1995. She was honored by Sagamore for being a Woman Pioneer for her work and fundraising for cancer research. She was a volunteer at the Cheer Guild was a member of Phi Beta Psi Sorority, Daughters of the American Revolution, and was a Girl Scout Troop Leader. She was a member of “VASA”, a Scandinavian organization of the United States, Canada and Sweden.

Juanita is survived by her son, Dean Goranson of Kokomo; daughter, Carol Atherton of Indianapolis; two grandchildren, J.D. Delaplane of Tucson, Arizona, Kristin Coryell and her husband Bruce of Indianapolis; two great-granddaughters, Ashley Coryell and Kristen Haralson; great-great-granddaughter, Bella Haralson; two nieces, Judy Fudenski and Annette Bean. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter, Jeanine A. Delaplane; son-in-law, John C. Atherton; sister, Violet Boyer Fudenski; brother-in-law, Charles Carter Fudenski.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 West Lincoln Road, with Rev. Glen Clarkson officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Alzheimer’s Association or VASA of America, with envelopes available.
