Helen I. Spraker, 91, Kokomo, died 5:35 p.m. Friday, March 5, 2010, at Howard Regional Health System in Kokomo.

She was born March 2, 1919, near Bunker Hill, to Oscar and Mary (Phillapy) Shroyer.

She married Lowell E. Spraker on Nov. 26, 1944, and he survives.

She graduated from Kokomo High School in 1937. She also attended a junior college in Evanston, Ill.

She was a homemaker and for several years taught kindergarten at First Presbyterian Church. She was also was a doctor’s assistant for Dr. Connelly, going out with him on home deliveries.

She was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church and had been a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She was a member of United Methodist Women, Ruth Circle, Church Women United and a former member of Order of the Eastern Star.

She loved to cook, sew, paint watercolors and arts and crafts.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Lowell E. Spraker, Kokomo; one daughter, Julie Sims, Kokomo; one step-grandson, William Sims; and several loving and caring nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Margaret Bentle and Jane Foreman.

Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 5741 W. 100 North, Kokomo. The Rev. Bud Probasco will officiate. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery. Friends and family may call 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church in the fellowship hall.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shiloh United Methodist Church or American Cancer Society.
