Mildred D. Smith, 90, Kokomo, formerly of Martinsville, passed away at 3:43 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Waterford Place Health Campus. Mildred was born in Morgan County to Fred H. and Opal (Wheeler) Dow on August 2, 1919. They are deceased. She married Jay Marsh Smith in 1940. Jay preceded her in death in 1989.

She was a graduate of Paragon High School and Indiana University. Mildred taught elementary school in Morgan County for 30 years.

A lifetime member of the Paragon Christian Church, Mildred appreciated the comfort given by Grace United Methodist Church, especially the visits with Pastor Larry Newburg. She also appreciated the comfort and care given to her at Waterford Place and through Guardian Angel Hospice.

Surviving is a daughter, Sue (Larry) Murrell of Kokomo; a son, Robert Smith of Indianapolis; a daughter, Bonnie (Jim) Tackett of Naples, Florida; six grandchildren, Melissa (Mike) Copher, Marc (Lori) Murrell, Matt (Sarah) Smith, Preston Smith, Scott (Adrienne) Tackett Alissa Tackett; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Jean (Eugene) Venne of Greenfield; a sister-in-law, Rosie (Charles) Dow of Indianapolis.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 West Lincoln Road with Pastor Stacee Fisher Gehring. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 7, 2010 at Friendship Park Cemetery, Paragon with Pastor Steve Adams officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church Visitation Fund or to Guardian Angel Hospice, with envelopes available.
