Gladys Rash, 70, Greentown, died at 7:12 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at her residence. She was born March 8, 1940, in Charter Oak, Mo., to Ira and Taft (Asher) Vandiver. On July 26, 1959, she married Ronald Rash, and they were married for 51 years.
She graduated from Tipton High School in 1959. She was employed at Delco Radio for a few years and Country Cook Inn.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald; son, Randy (Kim) Rash, Greentown; daughter, Cynthia Lynn "Cindy" Rash, Kokomo; sister, Fay Holder, Florida; brother, Jim (Sue) Vandiver, Summitville; brother, Larry Vandiver, Florida; brother, Roger (Becky) Vandiver, Kokomo; sister, Debbie (Tim) Harris, Elwood; and sister, Donna (Lee) Lowe, Kokomo. Gladys loved her grandkids dearly, Cpl. Justin (Tina) Rash, Yuma, Ariz., where Justin is serving as a corporal in the United States Marines; Jessica Rash, Greentown; one great-grandchild due in March 2011; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and two special aunts, Aunt Martha Ray and Aunt Nellie.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Sharon Garmon.
The family would like to send a special thank you to Guardian Angel Hospice and nurses Betty, DeDe and Tammy.
Services are 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Hasler & Stout Funeral Home, 112 E. Main St., Greentown, with Sandy Peters officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Greentown, following the service. Evan Graham Walker, 18, Greentown, died at 3:18 p.m., Friday, July 23, 2010, in Greentown.
He was born Dec. 12, 1991, in Carson City, Nev., to his parents, Philip Walker and Christi (Evans) Kanable.
Evan was a student at Eastern High School and was actively involved in the American Diabetes Association.
Survivors include his mother, Christi Kanable, Greentown; stepfather, Ron Kanable, Greentown; sister, Riley Kanable; grandparents, Lowell and Dianna Evans, Russiaville; Sona Camp and Stan Johnson, Greentown, Graham and Patricia Walker, England; and Vicki Kanable, Kokomo; great-grandparent, Emogene Richey, Greentown; aunts and uncles, Gary and Leslie Rhinebarger, Forest; Lowell and Bobbie Evans, Kokomo; Misty and Shane Fawbush, Kokomo; Brad and Danielle Rush, Greentown; David and Maren Evans, Russiaville; Rick Kanable, Kokomo; Jonna Kanable, Atlanta, Ga.; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandfather.
Services are 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at Hasler and Stout Funeral Home 112 E. Main St., Greentown. Officiant will be Thelma Corbett. Burial is at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Greentown following the service. Calling hours are 2 are 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Ethel Charlene Maxwell, 87, Kokomo, died at 8:43 p.m., Saturday, July 24, 2010, at her residence.
She was born July 2, 1923 in Sharp County, Ark., to Jeff and Vida (Diceton) Jones.
She was married to McCoy Maxwell, Dec. 25, 1941, and he preceded her in death Aug. 2, 1990.
She retired after 22 years from Delco Electronics. She had also taught school in an one-room school house all eight grades and was a homemaker.
She graduated from high school in Arkansas.
She was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church where she was the church organist and Sunday school teacher for over 60 years.
Her hobbies and Interests included oil and water painting, sewing, reading, gardening and she loved music.
Survivors include children, Bonnie (Ralph) Stone, Kokomo, Wayne (Gloria) Maxwell, Russiaville, Paula Alter, Windfall; daughter-in-law, Patricia Maxwell, Kokomo; one brother, Scott (Deanna) Jones, Smithville, Ark.; three sisters, Buhton Jones, Charlotte, Ark., Robie (Kenneth) Hash, Poughkeepsie, Ark., and Jane (Bob) Swango, Anderson; 10 grandchildren, Greg Stone, Gina Thomas, John Maxwell, Jeff Maxwell, James Maxwell, Anne Neisus, Clinton Maxwell, Tonya Hall, Joshua Alter, Rachel Cox; 14 great grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Johnny Maxwell; an infant daughter, Cathy Sue Maxwell; one brother, George Jones; an infant brother, Wayman Jones; and a sister, Jeffie Farmer.
Services are 1 p.m., Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at Shirley and Stout Funeral Home Lincoln Road Chapel 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo. Officiant will be Reverend Tim Apt.

Jerry L. Christopher, 64, Show Low, Ariz., passed away on Monday, July 19, 2010, at his home.
He was born Nov. 25, 1945, in Danville, Ill., the son of Howard and Margaret Loretta (Scanlon) Christopher.
On May 19, 1972, he married Linda J. (Beck).
He was a retired security guard. A veteran, he served active duty from 1971 until 1973 in the Army, then served in the Reserves from 1973 until 1978.
He is survived by his wife, Linda J. Christopher, Show Low, Ariz.; his children, Mark Hollenbaugh and wife Angie, South Whitley, Raymond Christopher, New Atlantics, Ill., and Andrea Sims and husband Brian, Gilbert, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and one sister, Patricia Sircy, Plainfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and a sister.
Graveside services are 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at Geetingsville Cemetery, Geetingsville. Pastor John Rhodes will officiate. Burial will follow in Geetingsville Cemetery. No public calling hours are planned. Stout and Son Funeral Home, Russiaville, is assisting the family.

Barry G. Bogucki, 56, Kokomo, a former resident of Hammond, IN, died at 12:57 pm Saturday July 24, 2010 at the Heart Center in Indianapolis. He was born March 7, 1954, in Hammond, IN, the son of Raymond and Bette (Spencer) Bogucki. February 1, 1973, he married Sheila A. Powers at the Southside Christian Church in Hammond, and she survives.
Barry was a 1972 graduate of Gavit High School in Hammond and had taken college courses at Purdue Univ. Extension, also in Hammond. He retired from Inland Steel Corp. as a chemist after 30 years of service. He was a supporter of the Sons of Silence and a former member of the Westville Lions Club. He was the proud owner of a Harley Motorcycle and enjoyed riding at every opportunity. He was an eclectic collector of various items including John Deere collectibles. He was known as the ultimate unifier when it came to friends and family. His life was centered on “his girls”.
He is survived by his wife of 37 ½ years, Sheila; his daughter Shannon Richards and her husband Bob of Russiaville, formerly of Lafayette; one granddaughter, Jillian Richards; three brothers, Ray Bogucki and his wife Stephanie, James Bogucki, all of Kentucky and Thomas Bogucki and his wife Nancy of Wisconsin; three sisters, Patricia Grabelle and her husband Jerry of Indiana, Mary Beth Nightengale and her husband Danny, and Victoria Perry and her husband Mark, all of Oklahoma; his mother-in-law, Alice Louderback of Indiana, and a brother-in-law, Jerry Powers and his wife Thyra of Colorado.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at Shirley and Stout Funeral Home, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo, Indiana, where the family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday. Pastor Kevin Smith will officiate and burial will follow the service with a farewell ride, biker-style. Memorial contributions may be made to the family to assist with final expenses.

Sherry D. Mince, 57, Kokomo, died at 10:20 a.m. Monday, July 19, 2010 at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis. She was born September 7, 1952 in Pontiac, Michigan, the daughter of Carl and Betty (Smith) Auten. On October 3, 1970 she married Harold R. Mince, who survives.
Sherry attended Lewis Cass High School. She worked at Delco Electronics for 20 years and was co-owner of Mince’s Creatures in Kokomo. Her grandchildren were her life and she was an animal lover.
Surviving in addition to her husband, are her children, Harold R. Mince and his companion Melissa Woodruff-Mince, April R. Mince and her fiancée Chris Gannell, Matthew Mince and his wife Estela, all of Kokomo; grandchildren, Nikki Mince, Janely Mondragon, Zoe Mince, Miley Mince, Anighis Cuttriss, Jada Cuttriss, Sarah Cuttriss, Molly Cooper and Adam Cooper; mother, Betty Auten of Galveston; brothers, Gary Auten of Galveston, Carl Auten and his wife Marilyn of Logansport; sister, Susan Simpson of Galveston; God children, Sabrina Barnett, Tricia Harris, Jennifer Cuttriss, Amanda Wright; best friends, Shirley Julow-Howell, Jo Lawrence; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ted and Eva Shoffner.
She was preceded in death by her father.
A celebration of Sherry’s life will be held Saturday, July 24, 2010 at her home, 5301 West 00 NS, Kokomo. Friends may call at the home anytime after Noon. Patricia Wehrle Johnson

Patricia Wehrle Johnson, 80, passed away Saturday, July 17, 2010. Late of Tarpon Springs, FL, Patricia had relocated to Indiana in March 2010. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio April 14, 1930 to Robert & Francis Z. (Trowbridge) Wehrle, raised in Norwood, Ohio and married Robert Ray Johnson on February 14, 1949. Robert predeceased her in December 1996.
Patricia is survived by her children, F. Bradford Johnson (Trudy) of Fishers, IN, Tamara Johnson (Ken Shoup) of Kokomo, IN, and Roderic W. Johnson (Carolyn) of Granada Hills, CA, her grandchildren Ian A. Titus (Jenny Parker) of Westfield, IN, Adrienne Petty (Robert) of Pendleton, IN, Katherine Toney of Kokomo, and Richard Johnson of Granada Hills, and great-grandchildren Becca Petty and Izaak Petty of Pendleton. She also was especially close to her nieces Melissa Hosmer of Indianapolis and Nancy Eberhardt of Tulsa, OK. Preceding her in death were her sisters Marjory Greenwald and Dorothy Cataldo; Patricia’s brother Robert Wehrle, Jr. (Norma) of Houston, TX also survives.
Patricia attended the University of Cincinnati where she met her husband, Robert, earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Indiana University, and her law degree at the age of 50 from the Michigan State University College of Law.
A wife, mother of three, and frequent part-time student, Patricia also devoted her time, energy and talents to a wide variety of occupations during her life including retail sales, classroom teacher for the developmentally disabled at the Bona Vista School in Kokomo, newspaper reporter for the Kokomo Morning Times, and as an attorney in private practice in St. Clair Shores, Michigan for more than a decade. In the 1980's she was a candidate for a seat in the State of Michigan House of Representatives and a candidate for nomination to a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives from the State of Michigan.
As a young woman, Patricia enjoyed swimming and recreational softball, and more recently resumed tap dancing with her group, “Steps In Time”, which performed at senior centers in the Tampa Bay area. Patricia was an avid reader, enjoyed travel (especially England and Italy), and had become the family historian and accomplished genealogist. As recent as April 2010, she traveled to Denver, CO to research records on the Orr family tree.
Patricia’s family extends its appreciation and gratitude to the physicians, nurses and staff at Howard Regional Health System for their care and support during Patricia’s final days.
A memorial service at Oak Hill Cemetery, Cincinnati, Ohio, will be held Saturday, August 7, 2010 followed by a family celebration of Patricia’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made either to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Church Street Station, P.O. Box 780, New York, NY 10008-0780 or the MSU College of Law, Office of Advancement, 400 Law College Building, East Lansing, Michigan 48824-1300. Larry Don Brubaker, 67, Kokomo, died at 1:32 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2010, in the Emergency Room at Howard Regional Health Center. He was born June 30, 1943 in Royal Center, the son of Donald and Wilma (Mullins) Brubaker. He married Marsha Kay Owens August 16, 1970 in Monon and she survives.
He was a graduate of Royal Center High School and served in the Indiana National Guard for six years. He retired from Delco Electronics in 1997 with over 30 years of service.
He was a former member of the Church of the Brethren. One of Larry’s past times was sitting on his front porch, people-watching. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling, and attending auto races. He greatly loved visits from family members.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, is one daughter, Joy Kay Franks and her husband Jacob Robert of Lebanon; one grandson, Ethan C. Franks, also of Lebanon; two brothers, Lynn Brubaker and his wife Jeanne of Logansport and Jon Brubaker and his wife Karen of Ft. Wayne; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be at 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 19, 2010, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Homes, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Rd., with Pastor Greg Reed officiating. Following the service, and in keeping with Larry’s wishes, he will be cremated. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until service time on Monday. Douglas A. Bedwell

Douglas A. Bedwell, 56, Greentown, went to be with the Lord at 4:59 p.m. Thursday, July 15, 2010 at St. Joseph Hospital. He was born March 3, 1954 in Toledo, Ohio, the son of James A. Bedwell III and Helen D. (Cooley) Bedwell. On July 30, 1977 at Zion Lutheran Church, Hartford City, he married Margo A. Walker, who preceded him in death on October 2, 2007.
Doug was a 1972 graduate of Blackford High School, Hartford City and a 1976 graduate of Purdue University with a degree in engineering. After graduating from Purdue, he worked at Chrysler Corp. and then went on to work at Delphi Electronics where he retired in December 2007 after 28 years of service. He was a member of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer and Moose Lodge in Hartford City. He enjoyed watching dirt track racing.
Doug is survived by one son, Kyle Bedwell and his wife Annie and their daughter Teagan all of Greentown; one daughter, Ann Bedwell and her fiancé Austin Deardorff of Greentown; parents, James and Helen Bedwell III of Hartford City; one brother, James Bedwell IV and his wife Connie of Columbia City; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Betty Walker of Hartford City; brother-in-law, Fred Walker and his wife Linda of Hartford City; sister-in-law, Brenda Kearns and her husband John of Muncie; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margo.

Barbara Ann "Bunny"Brown, 74, Kokomo, died at 8:05 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at Howard Regional Hospital, Kokomo. She was born October 4, 1935, Springfield, In., to Charles R and Eva (Kassen) Jones. She married David Charles Brown on August 27, 1954; he preceded her in death, July 28, 2002.
Barbara was active in the community, serving on the board of the Howard County Community Assistance Foundation. She held membership in General James Cox chapter of DAR, Kokomo Shrine Club Maha, Order of Eastern Star of Indiana, 108 Center Chapter. She was a participant in Howard County Home Extension and enjoyed judging scrapbooks, baskets and quilts at the Howard County 4 H fair. She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Lisa and Gene Petty, Kokomo, Cindy and John Kerker, Kokomo, Sharon and Larry Indrutz, Kokomo; one son David (Rick) and Nancy Brown, Nottingham, PA.; grandchildren, Matthew Indrutz of Columbus, OH, Alexander and Rachelle Indrutz, Lebanon In. Spencer Petty, Kokomo, Jennifer Petty and Nick Jones, Kokomo. Katy and Aaron Crist, Sweetser In; Madison Brown, Nottingham, PA , Alleca Kerker, Kokomo; two great-grandchildren Kaylee and Alexis Indrutz, Lebanon In; expecting two more great-grandchildren in October and February; one Aunt, Margaret McFarland, New Castle, In.

John Scott Peterson

John Scott Peterson, 44, Fairmount, died Monday, July 12, 2010. He was born December 29, 1965 in Martinsville, the son of Donald Ray and Evelyn Marie (Markham) Peterson. On August 29, 1997, he married Sherry Hileman, who survives.
Scott was a 1985 graduate of Eastern High School. He was an Army Veteran, serving from July 10, 1985 to June 5, 1987. He had worked as an operating engineer for Getrag and also Chrysler Corp. He was a member of the Steelworkers UAW Local 103. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, being outdoors, working on cars, building things and spending time with his family especially his children.
In addition to his wife Sherry, Scott is survived by three children, Jeremy Scott Peterson of Sharpsville, Janelle Sheyenne Peterson and Jennifer Sherice Peterson, both of Fairmount; mother, Evelyn Peterson of Kokomo; sisters, Donna Lynn Peterson of Kokomo, Melinda Jo Shoulders of Martinsville; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, July 16, 2010 at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 West Lincoln Road, with Pastor Steve Sherwood officiating.

Truman Cook, 82, Kokomo, died at 8 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at Sterling House, Kokomo. He was born June 27, 1928, in Clarkton, Mo., to Willard and Clora Bell (Thurmon) Cook. He married Martha (Copp) Cook and she preceded him death on April 12, 2005. Truman retired from Haynes International in 1986 after 33 years of service. He was a member of Greentown Wesleyan Church in
Greentown.
He is survived by sons, Kyle Cook, Greentown, Dan and Crissie Cook, Greentown, Randy and Kim Cook, Peru, and Gary and Doris Cook, Florida; daughters, Susan and Doug Gray, Greenfield, Renee and Jerry Walker, California, and Waneta and Melvin Key, Tipton;
son-in-law, Eiji Uyehara, California; brothers, Donald and Sarah Cook, Frankton, Earl and Marge Cook, Texas, Calvin and Sharon Cook, Florida, Bob and Pat Cook, Tipton, and Herman Cook, Sharpsville; sisters, Geneva and Donnie Fennell, Tipton, and Violet Lewis, Kokomo; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Danette Uyehara; sister-in-law, Debbie Cook; and one great-grandchild.

William Gene "Bill" Ellis

William Gene "Bill" Ellis, 78, South Bend, died at 11 a.m. Monday, July 12, 2010, at Providence House, South Bend. He was born Aug. 1, 1921, in Greentown, to Robert W. and Freda Shirlie (Powell) Ellis. On Nov. 23, 1941, in Greentown, he married Mary Elizabeth
(Williams) Ellis, and she survives.
He graduated from Union High School in 1939 and had one year of extended study in agriculture. He was a anager for Michigan Livestock Exchange as a hog buyer for 27 years and was a farmer for 18 years. He was in the United States Navy, serving from July 22, 1942, to Nov. 14, 1945, where he was a water tinder 1st Class, serving on the USS Shannon in World War II and receiving two bronze stars.
Bill was a member of the Pleasantview Church of Christ, where he served as an elder and adult Sunday school teacher. He also served as a hospice volunteer. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and feeding his birds.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Ellis; son, Ronald Ellis and wife Anita, Westport; daughter, Barbara Halstead and husband Larry, Hamilton, Ohio; son, Gene Ellis, Alexandria; son, Ed Ellis and wife Judy, South Bend; brothers, Robert Ellis and wife Rebecca, Leonard Ellis and wife Virginia, and brother-in-law, Donald Graf, all of Greentown; seven grandchildren, Ryan Ellis, Karyn Hurst, Todd Ellis, Heather McDowell, Tracie Hawes, Michael Halstead and
Jonathan Ellis; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Shirlie Ellis; a sister, Freda Graf; and a brother, Floyd Ellis.

Jojo DePalma Delbridge, 74, of Kokomo, died peacefully at 9:30 p.m. Monday, July 12, 2010, in the Golden Living Sycamore Village Health Care Center.
She was born Nov. 28, 1935 in Kokomo to Mildred (Griffin) and Gennaro DePalma.
On March 9, 1999, Jojo ‘s husband, Clarence “Tony” Delbridge preceded her in death.
She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, American Legion, Post 6 and the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW, Post 1152. Jojo had also served on the Color Guard with the VFW Military Rites Team.
During her life, Jojo had nine children, Michelle Cooley Theresa Lynn, Kokomo; Jo Black of Warsaw, Regina (Burns) Kennedy of Burlington, Julia (Thursa Lorraine) Russell of Ohio, John M. Speight of Peru, George, Leslie and Geoffrey Tackett all of Indiana; three sisters, Catherine Torres of Greentown, Regina Wingard of Greenwood, and Margaret Cook of Kokomo; and one sister-in-law, Illa DePalma of Kokomo. Along with Jojo’s many dear friends are Dale Armstrong and R. Cripe both of Kokomo.
Along with her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents and six brothers, Tom, Frank, Gennaro, Paul, Tony and Don.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Monday, July 19, 2010, in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church 3155 S. 200 W. Kokomo, Indiana 46902. Rev. Fr. Joseph Aytona CPM, will be the celebrant of the Mass. Visitation will be held from noon until 1 p.m. prior to the Mass at the church. Burial rites will follow at Crown Point Cemetery.
Shirley and Stout Funeral Home, Jefferson St. Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Ret. Col. James A. "Jim" Shutt

Ret. Col. James A. "Jim" Shutt Sr., 67, Noblesville, died at 9:45 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010, at Riverview Hospital, Noblesville.
He was born Jan. 17, 1943, in Kokomo, to Harry A. Shutt and Betty M. (Kendall) Shutt-Scott.
On Aug. 2, 1964, in Greentown, he married Eloise A. ( Smith) Shutt, and she survives.
He graduated from Kokomo High School in 1961, Purdue University in 1966 with a B.S. in Micrometeorology, an MBA in 1978 from Central State University in Edmund, Okla., and Squadron Officer School in 1970, Air Command and Staff College in 1979 and Air War College (1984), all at Maxwell Air Force Base, Okla.
He retired in January 1994 from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio, then started work as a Superintendent of
Transportation for Indianapolis Public Schools System. He went on to be the facilities manager at Tipton Memorial Hospital, Tipton, then facilities manager at Kimberly-Clark, Appleton, Wis., facilities manager for Proctor & Gamble in Cincinnati, Ohio, and Department of Defense contractor at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base before retiring in March of 2007.
Jim served his country in the United States Air Force honorably for 28 years from June 30, 1966 to Jan. 1, 1994. His service encompassed roles such as an exchange officer with the British Royal Air Force and Chief of Maintenance for F-4, F-15 and F-16 fighter squadrons. Other positions he held included Commander, Director and Senior Staff Officer. He served at many bases in the United States and overseas including Florida, Alabama, Oklahoma, Utah, California, Illinois, Ohio, Alaska, United Kingdom, Thailand, Korea, Germany, Spain and Turkey. He served in South East Asia in Thailand from 1973-1974 in support for the Vietnam War, and in support of Operations Desert Storm, Desert Shield and Desert Calm from Aug. 2, 1991 to Dec. 31, 1993.
During his career, he earned the Legion of Merit with One Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with Three Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster, Distinguished Presidential Unit Citation with One Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal with One Bronze Service Star, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Thailand), Air Force Overseas Short Tour
Ribbon, Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon with Two Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with One Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon and Air Force Training Ribbon.
He was a member of the American Legion, Air Force Association, MOAA and VFW, all in West Chester, Ohio.
He is survived by his wife, Eloise Shutt; son, Tech. Sgt. James A. Shutt Jr. and wife Tracy, Dayton, Ohio, and their daughters, Alexandrea and Elizabeth Shutt; daughter, Loree and husband John Haisley and their children, Jacob and Sydney Haisley, Carmel; sister, Joyce and Jack Wills, Georgia; brother, Tom Scott, Asheville, N.C.; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; aunts; and uncles.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Hasler & Stout Funeral Home, 112 E. Main St., Greentown, with a full military service provided by the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Honor Guard and the Kokomo VFW Military Rites team. Pastor Gary Peterson of First Church of the Open Bible in Huber Heights, Ohio, will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery following the service. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Robert James Zent

Robert James Zent, 99, Kokomo, passed away peacefully at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 14, 2010, at St. Joseph Hospital, surrounded by his children.
He was born July 24, 1910, in Roanoke, to James Elmer and Alice (Sharpe) Zent.
He married Kathryn DeArmitt on July 9, 1937, in Roanoke, and she preceded him in death on July 15, 1998.
He graduated from Roanoke High School in 1928. After graduation, he joined his father in the Roanoke Ford dealership, J.E. Zent and Sons. Robert and his brother, Dwight, remained in the business until they retired in 1973. He was a lifelong member of the Roanoke Brethren Church where he served as Sunday school teacher, moderator and was elected to the office of deacon for life. He was active in local civic organizations, serving on Jackson Township Advisory Board from 1942 to 1954 and on the Board of Directors of Roanoke State Bank from 1969 to 1978. He was also active in the revitalization of Roanoke and the historic preservation of the community. He was a founder and member of the board of the Roanoke Area Heritage Center. The park outside the Roanoke Heritage Center was dedicated as Zent Commons in Robert’s honor in 1999.
He is survived by two sons, Rex (Karen) Zent, Dublin, Ohio, and Don (Deborah) Zent, Kokomo; four grandchildren, Brian (Amber) Zent, South Euclid, Ohio, John (Kelly) Zent, Pensacola, Fla, Stefanie (Seddrick) Williams, Long Island, N.Y., and Brad Hoehner, Kokomo; and two great-grandchildren, Lindsay Williams and Devin Williams.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; siblings Kenneth, Dwight, Bruce, Mildred (Kerch), Helen (Wirts), Lorena, Alice Jane, and infant Georgia; and daughter-in-law Linda Crawley Zent.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on July 24, 2010, his 100th birthday, in Roanoke.
