Ralph N. Hendershot, 87, Kokomo, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2018, at The Wellington at Kokomo.  He was born July 10, 1930, in Western Howard County, to Orel & Flossie (Newberry) Hendershot.  On October 2, 1993, he married Karen (Butler) Miller, and she survives.

Ralph was a 1948 graduate of New London High School, and was in the last graduating class before its consolidation into the Western School Corporation.  He started working for Continental Steel in 1954 building chain link fence.  Then in 1963, he began his own business, Hendershot Fence Company, which he ran until his retirement in 1993, when he turned it over to his son.  Even in retirement he worked almost daily before his death.

Ralph was an active member of Bible Baptist Church, where he served as a greeter and prayer warrior.  He had a passion for Christian missions, making numerous short term mission trips to Central America. Ralph made 30 years of mission trips to Costa Rica alone in addition to ministering in Nicaragua, Honduras, and El Salvador.  He served 9 years on the board of directors of C.A.M.P., Central American Mission Project out of Illinois.  In 2017, Ralph was honored for over 20 years of service to the Habitat for Humanity of Kokomo. The highlight of his life occurred in 2014 when he was able to tour the Holy Land and walk where Jesus walked.  He felt the Lord had blessed his life so much.

Along with his wife, Karen, Ralph is survived by his children, Greg (Susan) Hendershot, Kokomo, Peggy (Tom) Willis, Indianapolis; step-children, Warren (Dawn) Miller, Hillsdale, MI, David (Beth) Miller, Roswell, GA, Jane (Richard) Kinnamon, Holly, MI, Julie Miller, Indianapolis; grandchildren, Justin Brewer, Breanna, Jacey, and Reese Hendershot; step-grandchildren, Lukas, Daniel, Nathaniel, Joseph Miller, and Kaitlyn Miller, and Benjamin, Andrew, Timothy, and Rachel Kinnamon; brother, Rex (Kathy) Hendershot, Russiaville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Joseph; sister, Genevieve Trees; and brother, Richard Hendershot.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Monday, April 16, 2018, at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 East Main Street, Russiaville, with Pastor Keith Treadway officiating.  Burial will follow in New London Cemetery.  Friends are invited to visit with the family from 3-7 pm Sunday at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made in Ralph’s memory to Habitat for Humanity of Kokomo, 854 N. Malfalfa Road, Kokomo, IN 46901, or C.A.M.P., PO Box 166, Tremont, IL 61568.  Messages of condolence may be left online at www.stoutandson.com
