Jerry L. “Barney” Barnes, 75, Burlington, passed away at his home on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at 10:45 am.  He was born December 30, 1942, in Carroll County, IN, the son of the late Elmer L. & Lola Vivian (Barnes) Barnes.

Jerry was a 1961 graduate of Burlington High School.  He had worked for Harvey & Son Construction, and Tenbrook Sales.  Jerry was a member of Faith Church of Christ.  He also served with the Burlington Fire Department, coached little league, softball, and umpired.  Jerry enjoyed carpentry work, collecting antique tractors, hunting, and fishing.

We would like for him to be remember like this.....

He was a wonderful, funny, loving & humble man, who loved his family above all else. He was proud of his kids, grandkids & great grandkids & he loved us with all his heart & we knew it.

He taught us to be strong, to stand up for ourselves, to be competitive, yet how to lose with dignity & grace.  He taught us how to work hard for the things we wanted & that HE would work hard for the things WE needed. To be honest & have integrity in all things.

Jerry is survived by his children, Tammy Jo Barnes (Scott) McCain, Camden, Gregory Dean (Michelle) Barnes, Flora, Douglas Marshall (Amanda) Barnes, Oregon, and Glen David (Jessica) Rodgers, Westfield; grandchildren, Evan McCain, Mason McCain, Josh Barnes, Kinsey Barnes, Blake Barnes, Brooke (Barnes) Cruickshank, Brant Barnes, Nolan, Hayden, Carter, Avery, Corinne, Joselyn Rodgers, great-grandchildren, Sophia McCain, Raquel, and Bodhi Barnes; sisters, Patricia DeVore, Logansport, and Wilma Jean Zell, Peru; he was married to Janet (Bennington) Gilman, who survives; and later married Linda Barnes Brookshire, who also survives.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Robert L. Barnes, and Donald W. Barnes, and his granddaughter, Paige Barnes.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm Saturday, January 13, 2018, at Stout & Son Funeral Home, Neptune Chapel, 44 Michigan Street, Burlington, with Steve Cole officiating.  Private family burial will take place at a later date.  Friends are invited to visit with the family from 1-4 pm on Saturday at the funeral home.  Memorial donations may be given in memory of Jerry’s granddaughter Paige Barnes, to Angel Fund, c/o Indiana Donor Network Foundation, 3760 Guion Road, Indianapolis, IN 46222.  Messages of condolence may be left online at www.stoutandson.com.

My name is David Redding. I graduated High School with Jerry in 1961. My memories of Jerry are of a smiling face and a funny story. Our paths went in different directions until he was driving for Tenbrook. He had his truck serviced at the International dealership at Logansport, In while I was working at the same location, delivering parts. If I was at the shop when he pulled in, he would look me up and we would enjoy talking about our past and the High School days. I last saw Jerry at the Class of 1961 class reunion at the Burlington park. I am very sorry for your loss. Jerry was a one of a kind friend of mine and I will miss our relationship.
