Dorothy L. (Shockley) Middleton, 96, Kokomo, passed away at 11:16 pm on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at her daughter’s home.  She was born March 13, 1921, in Kokomo, the daughter of the late, Roy E. & Effie (Beard) Shockley.  On June 8, 1945, she married Howard A. Middleton who preceded her in death on February 10, 1976.

Dorothy was a 1939 graduate of Kokomo High School and attended Indiana Business College.   She had worked for Kokomo Center School Corporation as a secretary.  Dorothy had been a member of Grace United Methodist Church since 1941.  She enjoyed cooking, playing Bridge, and traveling. 

Dorothy is survived by her children, Steven (Tammy) Middleton, Cicero, IN, and Pamela (Marvin) Challis, Kokomo; grandchildren, Kristen Challis, Brad (Kristen) Challis, and Samantha Middleton; great-grandchildren, Blaine Challis, and Brooklyn Challis, along with several nieces and nephews. 

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband.

The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Guardian Angel Hospice and Home Instead for the loving care Dorothy received for her final journey. 

Funeral services for Dorothy will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday April 20, 2017, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 West Lincoln Road, Kokomo, with Pastor Brian Cook officiating.  Burial will follow in New London Cemetery.  Friends are invited to visit with the family from 11:00 am until time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy’s memory to Guardian Angel Hospice Foundation, 511 W.
