Phyllis Eilene Blakeslee, 87, Kokomo, passed away at 2:40 p.m. on Friday, February 3, 2017, at Community Howard Regional Health. She was born July 13, 1929, in Tipton County, to Arthur and Edna (Meyer) Swinney. In December of 1978, she married Amos M. Blakeslee, and he preceded her in death on November 24, 2012.
Phyllis graduated from Tipton High School in 1947 and earned her Master’s degree in education from Indiana University of Kokomo. She was a teacher first at Roosevelt School in Kokomo and later at Elwood Haynes. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and First Christian Church in Kokomo. She was very active in volunteer work and loved sewing, knitting and dancing.
Survivors include her son, Kim (Kathy) Peltier, Denver, Colorado; daughter, Linda (Jim) Goodenough, Wabash; grandchildren, Heather Warner and companion Jason Reed, Kokomo, Holly Lanning, Kokomo, Amber Galloway, Denver, Colorado, Shay Ricks, Denver, Colorado, Jennifer Plinski, Denver, Colorado, and Tyler Blakeslee, Korea; sister, Theresa Martin, Rockport; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at First Christian Church, 854 N. 300 W., Kokomo, with Pastor Will Jewsbury officiating. Burial will follow in Tetersburg Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church.
