John R. “Dick” Watkins, 83, Michigantown, passed away at 2:20 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2103, at Clinton House Health & Rehabilitation Center. He was born Nov. 18, 1929, in Forest, to Russell and Irene (Robertson) Watkins. On Feb. 19, 1954, he married Betty Jean Gallaher, and she passed away March 2, 2006.
John was a corporal in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1952 and worked for AgMax in Forest for 14 years from 1978 to 1992. He also worked in farming for several farm families around the area. One of his hobbies was making things in his woodshop.
He is survived by his son, Jerry (Tina) Watkins, Michigantown; daughter, Linda (Gary) Myers, Angola; one sister, Carolyn Becker, Forest; nine grandchildren, Emily Eaton, Dustin Lucas, Jennifer Myers, James Watkins, Jerri Ann Watkins, Kelsey Crose, Courtnay Evans, Brittaney McQuinn and MaKayla McQuinn; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Irene Watkins; wife, Betty Jean Watkins; son, Loren Watkins; two brothers, Donald Watkins and Harold Watkins; and one grandson.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 E. Main St., Russiaville. Burial will follow in Bunnell Cememtery with military rites. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Guardian Angel Hospice.
